HUGE latency problem...help!

Postby I_watch_starz on Mon Jan 31, 2005 4:35 am

Thanks for all the great people in here giving advice to newbies like me!

Ok, the problem is that when I play my softsynth through Cubase SE, I have a huge latency...like almost a second. This makes it impossible to moniter and record MIDI into Cubase. This latency isnt there when I play my softsynth as stand-alone outside of Cubase, its only in Cubase.

My DAW set up is Athlon 64FX with 512 ram with M-Audio Audiophle 2496, Absynth 3 and Cubase SE. My processor speed is really fast, I have the latest driver from M-Audio, and I have plenty of memory...what is going on here?

I don't use Cubase, but there are adjustments you can make for latency in the M-Audio control panel. You're sure you're using ASIO drivers, right? Try reducing the buffer size.

for the record:

Adjust that setting down to decrease latency. Adjusting to low will cause cracking and popping. Adusting it too high causes latency.

Also by default Cubase uses the "ASIO Multimedia" driver (slow), not the faster "M-Audio ASIO" driver. Use that instead. You can change it in Cubase's Audio prefs.

I'm in a screenshot mood today. I've got more bandwidth than sense it appears and/or I must have a big project that I should be working on. :
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.
