Weekly Blogs

Postby nitten on Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:01 pm

Like i said in my last blog, i have started to do weekly blog. I figured it would be best to keep them in one thread.

Here's the first blog it's called Treating it as a business.

Like i said, i'm going to keep these blogs fairly short and more focus on process then product, although i really can't promise for how long that's going to last.
It's all about the resolve, outcome is secondary.

Treating "it" as a buisness, or not..

Depends on your goals.

If you intend on making a living (or trying to) from music, you'd better be treating it as a buisness. Learn the legal stuff, learn the money flow, learn the copyright, stay organized -is a good place to start. It's harder to get ripped off when you know what's going on. If you are doing deals get a good lawyer, they are definately worth their weight in gold! (i get more buisness from my lawyer...)

If music is a hobby, treat it as however you wish.
Nothing wrong with this being a hobby. Going full bore trying to make it is not for most people, as there's a lot of sacrifice. There's even more people out there trying to do the same thing, and only the same amount of chances. (not to mention you can pretty much count out one revenue source because of piracy...)
Actually, if you are just starting out today... have a backup plan! The future of this buisness is uncertain at best.

That was not exactly what i meant with the title, basically i just find that when you treat all the agreements (sessions, rehearsels, gig etc.) as a business, the creative side has easier to flourish.

I get what you were saying.
Being prompt and organized, respecting others' time, making the most of yours, ect.
That's actually a good recipe for pretty much anything ya do in life. :-bd
Whether or not you are doing this as a career, (as a potential career), or for fun, ... there's things you can do and a way to be- that all correlate to each other.

All i was saying is that if treating this as a buisness, in the literal sense, there's things to know that will help you to that end.
Side note: Even if your goal is to get signed to a label, today's reality dictates that you're going to have to start as an independant. In order to get there, you need to learn the buisness side of things right off the bat (as soon as you're serious). It's kinda sad that the artist can't just focus on being a better artist (of course this is still necessary).. today starting out, you need to wear all hats!

Okay, made more sense, thought you said that as a direct response on the blog, which didn't make sense to me.

Loathe. How you loathe the real world. Read all three blogs. Nice job on the English. Not bad at all for a rap artist from Denmark.

Thanks, i think?

I really don't like the last one that much, i original had planed a much longer and more interesting post, but sadly the university does not accept "i had to write a blog" as an excuse for not turning assignments in on time.

Yes. That was a compliment, with a sardonic insult thrown in on the end. I'm just harassing you with the whole hip-hop thing.

I know what you mean about school. I'm working on my Master's and they don't really take to kindly to "...but I had this really cool guitar riff idea that I just had to get down!!!"

That's not really nice, the last part at least isn't.

Yeah i don't imagine they take kinder to it down the line.

Ah. Sarcasm doesn't translate well via text I guess. Forget the insult. It was meant to be funny, like a good natured ribbing. It wasn't. Take the compliment. I was able to understand your blogs quite well. You even managed to use colloquial phrases correctly, which is impressive. Often people who aren't native speakers won't use local sayings the right way. That goes for all languages. I totally murder Spanish sayings and my mother-in-law is always laughing at me. It's because I translate literally.

Regardless, good job on the English.

I'm studying Administrative Leadership. It has nothing to do with what I want to be when I grow up, but it's free (my employer is paying for it). It's just another fall back for when I retire from the Navy, if the music thing still doesn't pan out.

Later Days!!! I look forward to your next blog.

Yeah, the problem for me is not so much finding or organizing the time, the problem comes in as soon as something unexpected or unplanned happens, which sadly has been the case for a long time for me.
I don't know what it is, seems some higher power just don't want me to keep up to date in everything.

So i decided to get back to blogging again, i'm not going to try to do a weekly schedule, since i know it won't work, but i'll write whenever i feel i have something somewhat useful.
As for this one, it's your standard ramblings from me, i basically try to explain the idea of my album, which i just recently gotten really back in to making, after almost a year of being pretty dead in terms of music.
There is some explicit language in there and probably grammatical errors as well, so read at your own risk.

Yeah, the weekly thing gets tough, especially when you really can't think of anything substantial to say. Grammatical errors are not a big deal. You write better than many people I know whose first language is English. Ok. Let's read this blog....

Good blog. Let us know when the album is out. I'd like to listen, explicit lyrics and all.

You know, I deleted the line in my post asking whether it was in English or not. I would say that I will learn Danish, but I'm having a hard enough time mastering Spanish, and after that my wife wants to learn Mandarin Chinese. I'll listen anyways. :D!

I'll suggest against trying to learn danish, it's supposely pretty hard for non-native speakers to learn, mostly due to a bunch of silly rules with about as many excepts as cases where they are right.
It's also not a very useful language to know, since Denmark is so small and no other country speaks it.

Anyway it's half past 10 in the morning now and i still haven't slept, so i'm gonna go grab my books at the post office and then head to bed.
Good night.

Ouch!
i've heard that beyond Icelandic, Mandarin Chinese is one of the hardest to pick up as a non-native speaker.
Best of luck!
