Wow - This jerk didn't even take the logo off my photos --

How does one set up their studio for mastering? What are some of the practices the mastering engineer follows? What hardware and software is needed to accomplish the task?

Well at least you can look on the bright side.....when ppl steal your pics, and copy your gear that must mean your reputation is pretty [darn] good :D. Sometimes instead of getting mad you all need to look on the brightside. That doesnt mean you shouldnt take legal action and/or screw with the guy too though

Yeah, but when people steal my pics and gear list, it means they're scum-sucking bottom feeders interested in misrepresenting themselves to take advantage of others.

Received a "non-help" letter from Terapad... Evidently, plagiarism and bandwidth theft isn't against their TOS or something... Or they just don't want to get involved - even when it's this obvious...

Send them a DMCA take down notice. Then they have to comply. You have the copyrights to that information.

Yeah let's send them something that would be impossible to mix/master and then refuse to pay.

Yup I do. You click where the finger points and wham! you're there. Ain't it neat?

Wanna try? I'll give you "the finger". ROFL2

Now what do I do with myself all day? Well.... sometimes I work out. Sometimes I do some of my own music. Sometimes I just hang around on the internet. Sometimes I teach at the college. Sometimes I go up to the new studio in Salamanca, Ny for a few days at a time. Sometimes I just kick back and sleep in. It's nice to now be semi retired.

Yup! I'm just an audio bum now. How about you? You still just a controlfreak?

I think what Alex was trying to point out is how an <img> works versus how a hyperlink works.

The offender has linked to John's site using an <img> as follows:

<img height="212" width="166" class="imageStyle" alt="MASSIVE_Workstation" src="http://www.massivemastering.com/html/massive_gear_files/massive_workstation-3.jpg" />

John replaced his original massive_workstation-3.jpg with a new one and VIOLA, it now shows a message on dufus' page.

But a click on the image doesn't take you to John's website, it only grabs the image from it. If John wanted the image to be clickable and linked to his site, he'd have to ask the dufus to change his HTML to link to one of his pages, rather than to display one of his images.

John,

Call these guys and give them all the info including the links, address, phone etc etc.
They may be able to help or direct you where to go.

High Tech Crimes Unit,
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office
(213) 580-3272

Without a 501-c3 status they can't take donations as payment. They must also be registered with the state government to conduct business in Cali. They post a Cali address. This stuff can go criminal. It could suck to be them. :D!

Sent the DMCA notices to Google, Terapad & the a--hole. I'm sure it'll help a lot [/sarcasm] but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Anyway -

Sure - I'd love to hear if anyone can actually get in touch with the guy about doing a sample or what not... Just to see if he'll actually return a call at all.

It'd be awesome to mention something about sending in a reel of 1/2" if you get him on the phone...
