Gearbox becomes POD FARM

Postby DaveyDouble on Sun Nov 02, 2008 6:53 am

I've just downloaded the new version of POD FARM, version 1.00.

It seems Gearbox are in the process of stopping Gearbox production and updates. There's no live links left to Gearbox on their site as far as I can tell.
On the upside however....

POD FARM supports all the old presets, and all the base models from Gearbox.
It works in standalone form as Gearbox did, but now offers DUAL TONE over ASIO.
The interface has been completely re-jigged, offering a tabbed format over the old click-icon-to-change-view format of Gearbox.
As far as I can tell, the models themselves haven't changed at all, they're just offered up in a different look to the old sim.

Line 6 are currently doing free downloads of POD FARM for all Gearbox users, with the plug-in functionality being sold at about $50 US over their site as download.
It isn't clear however whether iLok is part of their authorisation process or whether it's just for ProTools RTAS plug versions.

They've also ceased production of the Toneport series (GX, UX1 and UX2) and have instead changed the front panel to a black facia on all models and called them Studio POD's or something. Nothing else seems to have changed tho. The UX8 is still as it was.

And still no firewire interfaces....
There's is a 67% chance I will hijack this thread.

You can still get Gearbox if you want it. I'm downloading it now just in case.

I have all the previous version going back to 3.1 backed up 'just in case' too. Always handy to back up a little bit when a bug pops it's head up in the middle of tracking.

I could be wrong (and I frequently am), but I thought part of the reason for the change was that Pod Farm was also a plugin out of the box. Or at least that was the impression I got from their promotional videos.

After doing a bit more digging, it turns out that the plug in ability is available from the factory with the new TonePorts.

See, told you I am frequently wrong ^^
