Line6 Pod X3 vs. Zoom G9.2tt vs. Vox Tonelab LE

Postby blake8 on Mon Oct 22, 2007 11:47 am

How does the new X3 stack up against the competition or even the XT?. The X3 seems great because it is a guitar, bass & vocal effects pedal all in one. What concerns me is that perhaps the quality is spread thin over the massive amount of features.

Also, the Zoom G9.2tt & The Vox Tonelab LE utilize tube technology. How is the tone on these boards compared to Line6 modeling?

I await your honest opinions! Thank you!

These are just opinions obviously the best way is to bring along your guitar and try them out with some headphones at the music store that should allow you to choose one based on your taste.
Personaly ive always liked the zoom sound. Its got nothing to do with what amp model it is because none of them sound "real" but lots sound good never tryed the vox stuff but I always liked the zoom sound over the line six sound.

Yeah zoom is ok as a rule, they are pretty inovative, i brought a multi effects pedal when i started playing guitar and this zoom pedal didn't come with right power supply in box which made me have to crack out the solidering iron and buy a better suited one (1 mm difference in the plug ...) but i wouldn't touch em anymore. i'm actually into line 6 stuff now, what style you play generally ... i find line 6 is good for more metalish kinda stuff

I've never been a huge fan of Zoom.... many of the tones to my ears just sound too unnatural to use. That said- most of the models I have used or heard to great extent have been the smaller budget ones.

The Tonelab SE has some really really nice tones to it- especially with the tube, it really adds a lot of warmth. Great clean sounds, and some really nice harmonic overdrives.

The Line 6 X3 does not spread thin over features. All of the sounds are there, and all of the editing capabilities are there. Literally- they combined the Bass Podxt with the Guitar PodXt (including all model packs) and then added the XLR and preamp settings from Gearbox.

If you take the time to create or tweak presets- PodX3 really can give you any tone you are looking for. ESPECIALLY now that you can run two amp paths simultaneously.

I really really hate zoom. Line 6 POD X3 is certainly the most versatile. and if you go into the advanced features there supposed to be fine for recording direct in, (Farview makes good with his). I like the sound of the models of it straight through a headphone.

Vox is hit or miss. Some of the models sound more like a guitar preamp than any of the PODs models, others are very shrill, thin sounding.

Really isn't there a guitar shop nearby where you can try these? I highly highly suggest it.

I had a Zoom 1010 floor effect ten years ago. Returned it the same day and never touched zoom since then. The pod line is great but I didn't use the X3 yet. Just wanted to share my experience with zoom.
