Guitar Synth/Sampling software

Postby bjp on Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:57 am

IS there any sowftare that turns your guitar into a midi sort of input. eg. takes your guitar through the line input, recognizes notes/chords etc and turns it into any midi/synth device you choose. Or is there any sotware that notates what you play. Im looking for this as an alternative to keyboard as a main controller as i am more used to playing guitar...

That would be nice if such a software device existed and worked. The closest you can get to that is with a (hardware) midi guitar synth.

Alas, Tweak is right. You need a MIDI pickup and have to install it and it's port on your guitar.

Here's some links:

As for notationwhile you play audio...this does not work on chords :(

MicNotator - EXCLUSIVE Microphone-to-Score Entry Method. Play a single-line melody on your solo acoustic instrument into a microphone. Then watch Allegro accurately notate while you play. It’s the easiest possible way to enter notes from wind or brass instruments like sax, trumpet, flute, etc. (To fully utilize the power of Allegro's MicNotator feature, it is recommended to use a high-quality computer microphone)

Though you should be able to capture chords with a MIDI guitar using that software.

Man....

I gave you guys ten years to fix this and you have done nothing.

Back in the dark ages, guitar synths were the best of a few bad options. I retreated to my cave, emerge a decade later and we (guitarists) still labour in the doldrums....digital outcasts, dinosaurs, roadkill stains on the information superhighway.

What have you been DOING all this time?

Roland Guitar Synths

Postby CanYouSayPreNup on Mon Jan 02, 2006 8:14 pm

Any members using a Roland Guitar Synth as a controller for other sound modules or soft synths? I remember some of the reiviews for the GR-33, stated that the internal Roland sounds tracked well but that there was slower tracking with midi. Would the various editing features of Cubase allow me to correct the timing and possible glitches? I've had several guitar synths in the past and found them very frustrating.

Thanks,
John

I remeber seeing mention to a plugin or piece of software a while ago that converted audio into midi notes, If i remeber rightly it was a link someone mentioned here on SC. Im not to sure wether it worked to well but perhaps something like that may be adaptable for your needs. Sorry i cant remeber what it was called either.

Am I right in thinking that the midi guitars that use piezo pickups track better than the magnetic ones?
