Soundcraft Ghost Desk - "Ikea Hack" Pics inside

Hello Everyone,

I thought I would share with the community my DIY desk. All of the wood was purchased at IKEA in the scrap/used section. They sell finished wood and particle board for dirt cheap. Some as even as low as $2.. The largest piece (desk surface) was $25.

Step 1 was to of course measure and design the desk

Step 2 was to cut the wood to the using a table saw, and a jig saw.

Here you go..

Here is the "scrap" wood from ikea.

I used these stands.. Also purchased at IKEA for $20 each

Measure and drill holes to line up with the holes on the stands

Secured with a machine screws and bolts. This was totally inspired by a skateboard & trucks design.

I also needed an extra 10" of surface for the keyboard and mouse. I used flat metal rails which I picked from home depot for $3 each. Also secured with machine screws and bolts

Drill holes which line up with the rails

All 3 rails installed

Here is the extension before it was mounted

The legs are metal and very sturdy. You just need to be carefull as to where you place the legs on the table. I centered the legs (vertically) based on the main surface of the desk.

But when I added the 10" extention to the front it began to lean a bit to the front. It wasn't going to topple over but to be sure I picked 2 adjustable metal legs from IKEA for $15 each..They are really cool b/c you can adjust them to any height to bad they only come in silver. They do however make a nice chrome one for $30 each.

You can see them towards the front of the desk in the last pic

This is what they look like
